J'entends le moulin

J'entends le moulin (tique tique taque)
Mon père a fair batir maison.
La fait batir à trois pignons.
Sont trois charpentiers qui la font.
Le plus jeune c'est mon mignon.
Qu'apporte-tu dans ton jupon?
C'est un paté de trois pigeons.
Asseyons-nous et le mangeons.
En s'asseyant il fit un bond,
Qui fit trembler mer et poisson
Et les cailloux qui sont au fond.

I hear the millwheel (tique tique taque)
My father is having a house built.
It's being built with three gables.
There are three carpenters building it.
The youngest is my darling.
What do you have in your apron?
It's a pie made of three pigeons.
Let's sit down and eat it.
While sitting down they all lept up,
Causing the sea and fish to tremble,
and the stones on the bottom of the sea.

Synopsis of J'entends le moulin
(written by me,and info taken from http://www.elektra.ca/thirtypicks/le-moulin.html ):

Donald Patriquin has compiled a very engaging, lively, two-part, accompanied and entertaining arrangement of a well-known French folksong.Being drawn to the vibrancy and beauty of French Canadian folk melodies, in the early 90's, Donald Patriquin embarked on a suite of French Canadian folk songs of which “J'entends le moulin” was to be the first. The arrangement of this song was commissioned by the children's choir of the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal (now the English Language Montreal School Board) whose director, Erica Phare, invited him to hold an exploratory workshop with her choir in preparation for the creation of the arrangement. The text is both interesting and evocative. It has now received performances on all continents, and is probably Donald Patriquin's most performed arrangement.

*ENGLISH TRANSLATION*
The horizon is shining because
it hide you somewhere.
when I see a lot of lights,
I feel dear because
you are in one of them.

Let's go out,
packing a bag with a piece of bread,
a knife, and a lamp.
This burning will that my father gave me.
That look that my mother gave me.

The earth is spining, hiding you.
The eyes are shining, and the lights are twinkling.
The earth is spining, putting on you;
putting on us who shall meet each other someday.

This burning will is that my father remain for me.
That look is that my mother gave me.
The earth is spining, hiding you.
The eyes are shining, and the lights are twinkling.
The earth is spining, putting on you:
putting on us who shall meet each other someday.

Choir BBQ

I think that yesterday BBQ is not a successful one. But I think those in charge have learnt quite a few things. I think it is not a successful one because you have forgotten to bring some things and is not totally prepared with all the things. There isnt alot of people going. Hope next time your all will try your very best to ask as many people go as possible.

12:18 PM

When Mr Poh say he is dissapointed with your performance, what come your mind? Is your all also dissapointed with your own performance? I think that if it is because you see so many people in a choir and feel that our choir is so small and do not have the faith that our choir will not sing better than them. The reason is not acceptable. How well the choir sings in not by the amount of people, is by the volume! Once in SYF, I saw a school with around 10+ of people. At first, we thought they will not sing well as they have very few people. But in the end, the volume is very loud, clear and well-sang! They got silver or gold. This proven that it is not the matter of alot of people in a choir a not, is the amount of effort you put in your singing. Hope you will know that THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE does not equal to THE QUALITY OF THE SINGING! ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!
